Heat pump installed by Heat Different.

The image shows a woman standing in front of a wooden fence and pointing at a heat pump unit – a large rectangular box with half the front covered by a grate and the other half a plain grey surface. Next to the woman, there are two men smiling.

“Our house is a larger-than-average Victorian mid-terrace. It was chilly and expensive to heat with gas, and I wanted us to be doing everything we could to reduce our contribution to climate change. Our EPC [Energy Performance Certificate] said our house was producing 7.2 tonnes of CO2 a year, 20% more than average. I was determined to change that.

“A friend who already had a heat pump said it was important to choose the right installer, and let them advise on the type of heat pump needed. After getting several quotes, we went with Heat Different, and were really happy with them.

“The heat pump they specified is a Viessmann, with a flow temperature of 70°C. This is higher than most heat pumps – closer to what you’d need with a gas boiler, which means it works with our existing radiators. That kept the cost down and meant there wasn’t too much disruption during the installation.

“We chose to install solar panels and a battery as well, to generate and store some of the electricity the heat pump would need. The combination of solar and heat pump means our monthly energy bills fell by a quarter between 2023 and 2024.

“And our overall carbon emissions from space and water heating are less than half what they used to be, so I’m really happy about that.”

Lucy’s message to anyone considering getting a heat pump:
“The heat pump manages itself, keeping our home lovely and toasty, with a very pleasant, steady warmth.”
